About RIHousing LeadSafe Homes Program
We work in partnership with the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) to help property owners across the state address lead paint and other health hazards in their homes.
An estimated 70% of the state’s housing stock was built prior to 1978, when lead was eliminated from paint. Lead exposure can cause lifelong health issues and can be harmful to young children and pregnant women.
Typical Scopes of Work

What are the steps?
Learn about the seven steps to becoming an RIHousing-sponsored lead contractor >
At this time, the RIHousing LeadSafe Homes Program (LSHP) is NOT accepting new applications to add Lead Contractors to the pool of active contractors. However, we are pleased to continue to sponsor contractors interested in obtaining their RI Department of Health Lead Licenses and contractors interested in attending RCWP skills training workshops. When the need for additional LSHP contractors arises, the review of applications from sponsored contractors who have obtained and maintained their DOH licenses and those that have attended the RCWP trainings may be prioritized.
This page will be updated when the application reopens. We encourge you to check back often for the latest information.
