Based on monthly data received from Rhode Island courts, this dashboard tracks the number of eviction case filings, hearings, judgments, and monetary awards observed within the state.
A filing occurs when a landlord issues a formal complaint to the court against a tenant with respect to some perceived lease violation.
A hearing refers to a case’s appearance before a judge in a courtroom.
A judgment refers to the final resolution of the eviction case and may result in legal eviction procedures, collection of owed rent, or both.
An award includes the total amount of money owed to a landlord following a case’s judgment and may include owed rent and any monetary damages.
NOTE: Evictions data is provided by the Rhode Island Supreme Court on a monthly basis. It will be updated by the 15th of each month for the most recent month available.
