Originally built in 1977\, the properties have undergone extensive renovation to improve energy efficiency\, sustainability and improved ventilation\, along with new exterior siding\, replacement and roof repair\, new windows\, kitchen and bathroom upgrades\, renovated and expanded community rooms\, and the conversion of 6 apartments to fully compliant ADA units.   \nIn 2020\, POAH applied for and received an allocation of Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) and tax-exempt bonds from RIHousing in order to re-syndicate the property and finance the renovations.

The 26 buildings contain a total of 74 apartments\, all of which are currently vacant. In 2018\, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development finalized a foreclosure of the Barbara Jordan II housing development and in June of that year ownership was transferred to RIHousing. Buildings will be partially demolished in preparation for the construction of new affordable housing on the site; the effort included a community engagement effort with local residents\, community organizations and others.
